Bhel Puri is a very popular Indian Street Food and is one of my favorite snacks. Its quick & easy to make and a delight to eat. I add a spicy namkeen or mixture to the bhel to give it more flavor as well as crunchiness.

I often run out of traditional Green Chutney & Tamarind Chutney at home. I have written a Bhel Puri recipe using Tomato Ketchup instead, which creates the perfect balance of sweet, spicy & tangy flavors.

Ingredients For Bhel Puri Recipe

  • 2 Cup Murmura or Puffed Rice
  • 1 Small Onion, Finely Chopped
  • 1 Medium Tomato, Finely Chopped
  • 3 Tablespoon Tomato Ketchup
  • 1/2 Cup Spicy Namkeen Mixture
  • 1 Teaspoon Lemon Juice
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt, or to Taste
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Chaat Masala

Step By Step Instructions With Photos for Bhel Puri Recipe

  • Add murmura or puffed rice to a big bowl along with finely chopped onion and tomato.

  • Add any Spicy Namkeen mixture.

  • I use Mastana Mix from Mirch Masala here. I have also had great results with Malwa Mix from Mirch Masala, Haldiram's Navratan Mix and even Bhujiya Sev. You can use any spicy mixture that is available to you or simply add sev. These are some of the ones I have tried.

  • Add salt, red chilli powder and chaat masala.

  • Finally add tomato ketchup and sprinkle some lemon juice. Optionally, you can also add 1-2 tsps of Coriander Chutney and Tamarind Chutney if they are readily available.

  • Mix the ingredients thoroughly and serve immediately. Do not wait too long after adding the ketchup/chutneys, otherwise it will become soggy.
