Potato is a starchy, root vegetable and is so widely used that it almost enjoys the status of a staple food in many countries. In terms of consumption it ranks just after Maize, Wheat and Rice.

In the Indian sub-continent, Potato dishes like Dum Aloo, Aloo ki Sabzi, Aloo Tamatar, Aloo Methi, Aloo Gobi etc. are extremely popular dishes. But the real taste of Potato is to be enjoyed in Indian snacks and street food like Samosa, Aloo Tikki, Aloo Chat, Vada Pav, Batata Vada, Aloo Pyaz Pakoda etc. Aloo Paratha is the favorite breakfast in many parts of North India particularly in the state of Punjab. Masala Dosa, a popular South Indian dish makes abundant use of potatoes.
Potatoes are packed with lot of energy and nutrition. They provide the body with good amounts of carbohydrates and protein as well as potassium, vitamin C, and vitamin B6. Potato also have blood pressure lowering properties. However, potatoes are high on glycemic index and their intake needs to be moderated by diabetics.
