Rava Upma is a tasty & healthy breakfast made from roasted semolina.

Rava Upma or Suji Upma is a simple, easy to cook and healthy breakfast made from roasted suji (also known as rava or semolina).

It is originally a South Indian dish but in last two decades has gained wide acceptance and liking in other parts of the country as well. It is traditionally served as breakfast, but can also be enjoyed as a healthy snack option in between meals or during any other part of the day.

It's a quick fix meal and perfectly suitable to pack for kids lunch box to school as well as a bachelor friendly dish being easy and fast to cook. It is a tasty, wholesome and comforting food for people of all age groups.

The semolina can be roasted in advance and stored in an airtight container. This way it is readily available to use while cooking. To roast semolina, add it to a heated pan and stir for 4-5 minutes till it becomes crisp and light brown in color.

Ingredients For Rava Upma Recipe

  • 1 Cup Roasted Suji/ Semolina
  • 2.5 Cups of Water
  • 1 Onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 Cup Peanuts
  • 1-2 Green Chillies, finely chopped
  • 5-6 Curry Leaves
  • 1 Teaspoon Rai / Mustard Seeds
  • 1 Teaspoon Lemon Juice
  • 1 Teaspoon Chana Dal (optional)
  • 1 Teaspoon Urad Dal (optional)
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt

Step By Step Instructions With Photos for Rava Upma Recipe

  • Heat oil in a pan and add 1 teaspoon mustard seeds to it. When the mustard seeds begin to crackle, add 1 teaspoon Chana Dal & Urad Dal.

  • Add 1/2 a cup of peanuts and roast them. The Chana Dal and Urad Dal will also get roasted along with the peanuts. Then add 5-6 Curry Leaves.

  • Then add 1-2 finely chopped green chillis and 1 small finely chopped onion and fry it till it turns golden brown or translucent.

  • Add 2.5 cups of water to the pan along with 1 teaspoon Salt & 1 teaspoon lemon juice and bring it to a boil. Turn the heat setting to low and add the roasted semolina to the mixture. Stir the mixture continuously as it thickens.

  • Turn off the flame when the water has been absorbed and let it sit for 5 minutes. Rava upma is ready. Serve it hot as is or along with coconut chutney.

रवा उपमा - Rava Upma Recipe in Hindi

रवा उपमा बनाने की सामग्री
  • 1 कप भुनी हुई सूजी
  • 2.5 कप पानी
  • 1 प्याज़, बारीक कटा हुआ
  • 1/2 कप मूंगफली
  • 1-2 हरी मिर्च, बारीक कटी हुई
  • 5-6 करी पत्ते
  • 1 टी-स्पून राई
  • 1 टी-स्पून निम्बू का रस
  • 1 टी-स्पून चना दाल (इच्छानुसार)
  • 1 टी-स्पून उड़द दाल (इच्छानुसार)
  • 1 टी-स्पून नमक
रवा उपमा बनाने की विधि
  • एक कढ़ाई में तेल गरम करके उसमे 1 छोटा चम्मच राई डालें। जब राई के दाने तड़कने लग जाएँ तब उसमें 1 छोटा चम्मच चना दाल और उड़द दाल डालें।

  • इसके बाद 1/2 कप मूंगफली तेल में डाल कर उसे भून लें। चना दाल एवं उड़द दाल भी मूंगफली के साथ ही भुन जाएँगी। फिर कढ़ाई में 5-6 करी पत्ते डालें।

  • 1-2 हरी मिर्च को बारीक काट कर तेल में डालें। साथ ही 1 बारीक कटा हुआ प्याज़ भी दाल कर उसे हल्का भूरा होने तक भूने।

  • कढ़ाई में 2.5 कप पानी के साथ १ छोटा चम्मच नमक और १ छोटी चम्मच निम्बू का रस डाल उसे उबाल लें। इसके बाद आंच को धीमा करके उसमें भुनी हुई सूजी डालें। पानी सूखने तक इस मिश्रण को अच्छी तरह मिलाएं.

  • जब सूजी पानी को पूरी तरह से सोख चुकी हो तब आंच बंद करके उसे 5 मिनट पकने दें। रवा उपमा तैयार है। इसको गरम गरम सादा अथवा नारियल की चटनी के साथ परोसें।.
