Step By Step
Black Pepper Tofu
First prepare the veggies. Chop the onions, colored bell peppers and spring onions. Mince the garlic finely, and grate the ginger.
Combine soy sauce, vegan mushroom oyster sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, black pepper powder and cornstarch for the stir fry sauce.
Cut tofu into cubes, then marinade with vegan mushroom oyster sauce, sesame oil and crushed black pepper. Mix to coat.
Add 2-3 tablespoons of cornstarch to tofu and mix gently with spoon or hand to coat all the tofu pieces well.
Add the coated tofu pieces to medium hot oil and fry. Fry without moving for 1 min to get a crispy coating.
Then turn the pieces and cook till the tofu is golden brown and crispy on all sides. Take it out and place on absorbent paper.
In the same pan, add chopped spring onion greens, minced garlic and ginger to a wok with hot oil. Cook for a min.
Add chopped onions and bell peppers to the wok. Stir and cook for 2-3 mins on high heat, as you get slight blistering on the vegetables.
Keep the heat high and oss the fried tofu pieces in the pan along with the vegetables.
Pour in the prepared stir fry sauce. Fold and toss the tofu and vegetables in the sauce to coat them completely.
Black pepper tofu is ready. Serve hot with some steamed or fried rice. A side of simple veggies like broccoli & beans would go well as well.
