About this schezwan paneer sliders recipe

Schezwan paneer sliders are mini burgers made with a lip smacking schezwan paneer filling and a creamy mayonnaise dressing sandwiched between pav buns.

Recipe highlights –

  • Bold Indo-Chinese flavors
  • Creamy and spicy schezwan paneer filling
  • Protein and fiber rich snack
  • Quick and easy, ready in under 30 minutes
  • Great for parties, gatherings or evening snacks

These sliders are a great appetizer or snack that are fun to eat and very easy to put together. They work very well for parties and gatherings or can be enjoyed just as an evening snack.

What buns to use for the sliders?

I prefer using the Indian pav buns for this recipe, as they are not sweet in taste. These are the same buns that you would use for pav bhaji or vada pav.

While the pav buns are usually made from plain flour, I have used the ones made with whole wheat flour instead for a healthier snack.

You can also use any burger buns, like brioche, or potato buns or hawaiian buns for this recipe. Although they are slightly sweet in taste, they still work well with the recipe.

For a quick variation, the filling can be sandwiched between two slices of regular bread and toasted with butter until golden brown for a delicious sandwich.

Main ingredients for the filling

The filling for these sliders is a flavorful mix of –

  • Paneer – Soft paneer cubes are the main ingredient and give a creamy rich texture to the filling, as well as add protein.
  • Vegetables – Chopped onions, tomatoes, and bell peppers are sautéed on high heat and mixed with the paneer.
  • Seasonings – Garlic, schezwan sauce, soy sauce, and black pepper for a bold Indo-Chinese flavor. Tomato ketchup adds a slight sweetness and sourness. Chaat masala and garam masala bring a burst of Indian spices.
  • Fresh greens – In addition to the schezwan paneer filling, I like to put a few fresh spinach leaves in the sliders, for freshness and a slight crunch. You can use lettuce leaves, fresh greens or even sliced onions instead.
  • Cheese (optional) – If you like, you can add some grated cheese to the filling as well.

Dressing for the sliders

The sliders are topped with a creamy dressing made from the following ingredients –

  • Mayonnaise
  • Schezwan sauce
  • Tomato ketchup.
  • Garlic powder
  • Oregano
  • Chili flakes.

I have used vegan mayonnaise here, but you can use any type that you like. If mayonnaise isn’t available, you can try substituting it with sour cream or hung curd for a similar texture.

Health and nutrition

These schezwan paneer sliders offer a balance of protein, fiber, and healthy fats while being indulgent and flavorful. Here’s a breakdown of their nutritional benefits:

  • High-Protein – Paneer is a great source of protein, helping with muscle repair and keeping you full for longer.
  • Rich in Fiber – Whole wheat buns and fresh vegetables provide dietary fiber, aiding digestion.
  • Healthy Fats – Paneer contains essential fats, while using vegan mayonnaise or hung curd can make it a lighter option.
  • Spices and Antioxidants – Garlic, black pepper, and chaat masala contribute antioxidants and enhance metabolism.

For a healthier version, you can opt for multigrain or whole wheat buns, use low-fat paneer, and reduce the amount of mayonnaise in the dressing.

Serving and storage suggestions

The sliders can be served as is like a snack or small meal. You can provide some extra schezwan sauce, garlic mayo or tomato ketchup for dipping.

You can also pair them with potato wedges, chips or a fresh salad. Chilled drinks like iced tea or lemonade would also complement them well.

Serve the sliders immediately after assembling to keep the buns soft and fresh. To make ahead –

  • Filling – You can prepare the schezwan paneer filling in advance and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat the filling before assembling.
  • Dressing – Make the creamy dressing a day ahead and refrigerate it. Stir before use.
  • Buns – Toast buns lightly with butter just before assembling for extra flavor and crunch.
