Potato Recipes | Aloo Recipes โ Potato is a starchy, root vegetable and is so widely used that it almost enjoys the status of a staple food in many countries. In terms of consumption it ranks just after Maize, Wheat and Rice.
Due to its widespread use, irresistible taste and compatibility with other food items, potato can undoubtedly be considered as king of the kitchen. Potato is versatile as well as comfort food and is enjoyable in all forms whether fried, boiled, roasted, mashed or baked.
Besides numerous dishes that use potato as a main course, it also ranks number one as a side dish. Potato recipes range from the simplest to the most stylish dishes and meals.
This humble ingredient finds a place in salads, sandwiches, patties, curries, snacks, dry vegetable combinations, chips, french fries, wedges, cutlets, pies etc.
In the Indian sub-continent, potato recipes like dum aloo, aloo ki aabzi, aloo tamatar, aloo methi, aloo gobi etc. are extremely popular dishes. But the real taste of potato is to be enjoyed in Indian snacks and street food like samosa, aloo tikki, aloo chat, vada pav, batata vada, aloo pyaz pakoda etc.
The use of potato as a principle ingredient is very common in all parts of the country. Aloo paratha is the favorite breakfast in many parts of North India particularly in the state of Punjab. Masala dosa, a popular South Indian dish makes abundant use of potatoes.
Potatoes are packed with lot of energy and nutrition. They provide the body with good amounts of carbohydrates and protein as well as potassium, vitamin C, and vitamin B6. Potato also have blood pressure lowering properties. However, potatoes are high on glycemic index and their intake needs to be moderated by diabetics.
